February 2004
From Brimfield Town Hall:
The snow is gone, and it’s about time! Ohio
weather, like its people, go from one extreme to the other in a
blink of an eye! Brimfield’s people are such, extreme,
motivated, devoted and dedicated whether they realize it or not.
All pursuing the same ultimate goals: Security, Safety and
Freedom of Choice. To this end, your board of trustees is
working hard to insure these ideals.
With the completion of the first Trustees meeting of April, the
Board and the Police department have purchased Tasers for our
officers. Tasers are a modern weapon that will give our Police
Officers the edge in detaining and bringing into compliance
those who do not sense the need for law. Under the direction of
our new Chief, David Blough, Brimfield is reintroducing the K-9
program into our community. When the K-9 program is fully
operational, our officers will then have another effective tool
to use in drug enforcement, missing children or adults and any
other situations which can benefit from the keen senses of a
K-9. The Brimfield Police Department, you must realize, is now
summed up in four words: EXTREME ENERGY, PROGRESSIVENESS, and
READINESS! We will never know until it is too late what curves
could be thrown at this community; our officers must have the
tools to respond and, if possible, prevent the unthinkable!
We, as a board, also understand that as a township we need to
give back to the community. At this point in time we are looking
into the possibility of a community room / library combination –
a building for the benefit of all groups and tax payers in
Brimfield. We, as a township, have funds secured from a previous
grant and thanks to the Jedd and other funding options, we are
looking into the above. The board’s main concern is not to have
to go back to the voters for additional funds. We will and can
only do this project if it involves funds and grants available
to us now, and not effecting the cash flow of other departments.
I want this community building to be a community effort and I
look forward to the chamber’s help in this effort.
In reference to the Jedds, we are now expecting our first check
any day from Tallmadge Jedd, which will now be the 2nd benefit
to Brimfield’s citizens, after the elimination of the Annexation
threat that was lining up against our community. This new fund
stream will benefit the whole community, and in years to come,
reduce the burden placed on Brimfield’s citizens. In reference
to the Kent Jedd, the board has been formed and is proceeding
with the petition phase of the creation of the Jedd.
In closing, the sun is shining and I’m going out to enjoy it!
Have a good spring!!
