BRIMFIELD LION’S CLUB
The Kelso House
www.kelsohouse.org
The
historic Kelso House is owned and operated by the non-profit
Brimfield Memorial House Association as a museum to preserve
furniture, clothing, books and toys which reflect life in a Western
Reserve township in the mid to late 1800’s.
The Greek Revival style house was built in 1833 by
William and Lucy Sawyer Kelso on the southeast corner at the center
of Brimfield Township. For more than fifty years the “Union House”
or “Old Hotel” as it was called by the early town folk, served as
the center of the town’s social activity, with a post office on the
main floor and a ballroom on the second floor. After Lucy’s death in
1886 the house became a private residence, last lived in by a
granddaughter of the original owners.

In 1961 the property was sold, and to prevent the
demolition of the house the Brimfield Memorial House Association was
formed. The group purchased the building from the Shell Oil Company
for $1.00, and moved it from the center of the township to its
present location, 4158 State Route 43, where it was set on new
foundations and refurbished with much of the original woodwork and
flooring. Later, more land was purchased to house other historic
buildings nestled around the Kelso House. These buildings include
the Michael-Cable Barn (1845), the Boosinger Corn Crib and Granary
(1879), which houses tools of yesteryear’s trades, and a garden
shed. Hopes for a replica of a district schoolhouse are in our
dreams to be added on our site.
Our
major means of operating is through membership, donations from the
public, and fund raising. Membership is open to all beginning at
$10.00 for an individual. We are sponsoring a commemorative brick
drive. You may have bricks engraved to honor or remember your loved
ones at a cost of $40.00 for two lines or $50.00 for three lines.
The bricks line the sidewalk near the entrance to our new elevator
at the back of the house. Call us or e-mail us for more information.
The mailing address for the site is Brimfield Memorial House

Tasting Room
Visit
the cozy, relaxing tasting room, overlooking the beautiful lake,
where people come to unwind, talk, enjoy the scenery, listen to
music, enjoy the art, drink wine and eat ("A loaf of bread, a jug of
wine and thee" – or is it "thou"?). They also have ample outdoor
seating on the deck along the lake when the weather permits
Party and Meeting Room
The
Lake View Hospitality Room, with its large windows overlooking the
lake, provides the perfect setting for your group of 60 or less
(please call for rental information).
In the Winery they have produced a range of fine still wines - red,
white and blush, from dry to semi-sweet - something to please every
palate!
An Art Gallery that showcases a different local artist every month
so that you can enjoy a changing "canvas" with your visits over time
is one of the features of this wonderful establishment.
Visit the Gift Shop any time of the year for hand-painted glassware
and other unique, unusual wine-related items that make the perfect
gift for yourself or your wine-enjoying friends.
I have it on good authority that the Bonfire/Hotdog Roasts held
several times a month in the Summer are a big hit with the local
community. Steak Cookouts during the Summer months, a Halloween
Party in October, plus Varietal Wine Tastings in the Lake View
Hospitality Room during the cold months are also part of this
wonderful Brimfield entrepreneur’s offerings

Golfing is your game Brimfield, Ohio is where you need to go. Sunny
Hill Golf Course is located at 3734 Sunnybrook Road just minutes

Sunnybrook to find a great place to have a good time. Sunny Hill
Golf Course features 27 holes of Golf and a driving range.
They have a newly remodeled eating and bar area
overlooking the beautiful front nine. The third nine was built as a
Par 3 or 4 so it could accommodate kids of all ages. If you have a
child that is 16 or younger and they want to golf during the week it
is only $5.00 for nine holes.
If
you would like to have your golf outing and benefit from the extras
at Sunny Hill they are many. First of all they have two spacious
pavilions. The larger pavilion is nestled in a beautiful wooded area
and it has a volleyball court, basketball court and horseshoe pits
within 50 feet. It also has two regulation size ball fields complete
with dugouts. You can bat a ball around there too if they are not
scheduled with games. The second pavilion is near a beautiful lake
and it can be divided so smaller groups can access the facilities.
Sunny Hill Golf and Recreation Center has been under
the careful eye of President Joe Repasky for the last eleven years
and looks to continue to improve every year. They are planning to
have all grass tees at the driving range by next year. If you have
questions about pricing and scheduling please call Robin Liggett at
330-673-1785 or 330-676-GOLF and schedule your next outing here in
